Renee Ottsman, of Shasta K&WGC, reports she will stand in for our club’s AKCA Dir/Rep (since Gary Desmond recently died suddenly) until the board meets again.  Not sure when that will be, since our President Armando has temporarily turned over his responsibilities to our club secretary, Tammy Cole.  I’ll send you our newsletters and you can use them for the “club reports” as required.  Our next club meeting is on August 16th at 10:00 a.m. at Terry & Lori Stewart’s home in Redding and we’ll be discussing lots of topics concerning the continued running of the club.  The minutes of this newsletter will reveal all. Check out their website at http://www.shastakoiclub.com/ .

July
Renee Ottsman, of Shasta K&WGC, reports the club met at John Watkins home on Saturday, July 18th.  John has a lovely home on the river, and a spectacular collection of koi.  We enjoyed talking and viewing his front pond, which sits at the entrance to his home.  The front pond contains large mature koi, some of which we recognized had been winners at our 2014 Shasta Koi Show.  Then we retired to the back of his home, which overlooks the scenic Sacramento River.  We spent another good amount of time enjoying his back pond, which is home to his current crop of show koi.  We saw the beautiful Kohaku which was awarded Mature Champion at the 2015 ZNA NorCal Show, and admired the other fish as well.  There was a monstrous Ginrin Chagoi, which John explained that he bought as a fingerling from Tom Lai at Champion Koi in San Jose.  We eventually sat in the living room and John shared his experiences at the most recent AKCA Wet Lab, which was held in Sacramento in June.  John also showed us his koi-care tray, which holds all of his water testing equipment and a log for writing down water quality readings and treatments.  He also shared with us three new products he had recently purchased and was trying out on his back pond.  “Healthy Up” is a food supplement that John adds to the sweet potatoes he feeds his fish daily.  “Mineral Plus” and “Filter Sand and” are added to his bakki shower weekly, and contain minerals and bacteria to improve water quality. These three products are made by Shinsuke Koi Products and distributed by Pan Intercorp in Seattle.  After a brief discussion of caring for koi in the current water crises, and some refreshments, the meeting ended.  Check out their website at http://www.shastakoiclub.com.

November
Renee Ottsman, of Shasta K&WGC, reports there is no club meeting scheduled for Nov. We are currently looking for a venue for our Dec Christmas party. If you have ideas or would like to host the Dec party, please contact Armando Mejorado or Tammy Cole. The koi auction held in Oct was a huge success. We had eight tanks full of beautiful koi and we SOLD every one. We even sold all of the tiny babies to a very happy lady who is starting up a new pond. The auction took in almost $1,600 which is one of our best years ever. Thank you to Terry and Karlene Stoker for having the auction at their home again this year. We also want to thank all of the volunteers who helped make this year’s auction a fun and successful event. The day turned from cloudy to sunny by the 11 o’clock opening bid, making for a perfect day. If you missed the auction, consider coming next year with fish to sell and maybe you’ll fall in love with a koi to add to your collection. Pictures from the auction will be featured in the Dec newsletter. Check out their website at http://www.shastakoiclub.com.

October
Renee Ottsman, of Shasta K&WGC, reports the club’s ANNUAL KOI AUCTION will be held on Sat, Oct 18, at 10 a.m. at the home of Terry & Karlene Stoker in Cottonwood. Refreshments by Karen Wing. And it looks like we will have a new slate of club officers after the Oct meeting.  We have many people stepping forward to fill these important positions.  Stay tuned! More to come! Check out their website at http://www.shastakoiclub.com

September

At the last club meeting, a nominating committee was formed consisting of Tom Tranbarger, Eda Eggeman, Karen Wing and Penny Hart. They will be seeking club members to fill these open offices. Please consider taking one of these rewarding positions if one of the committee members contacts you. Jon Laubin has volunteered to become the 2015 Webmaster and will update the SK&WC Facebook page.
