Ken Houtman, of Great Ponds & KS of West Michigan, said their members are doing well. They are off to a great start on another season. They had a couple of new members and one family had a new addition. The auction went well and it turned out to be a mild winter without too many problems. They have the schedule of who is going to host when for the whole season, and preparations are being made.

March
Ken Houtman, of Great Ponds & KS of West Michigan, said there isn’t much to say. Their first meeting of the year happens next month. Their membership dues should be paid. They usually have an auction of koi related items and they have a chance to discuss how the fish managed the winter ice. It is good to visit with old friends and socialize before their meeting.

February
Ken Houtman, of Great Ponds & KS of West Michigan, said their club is quiet; they are on their winter break; the fish are quiet. Their club president did send out a notice to remind everyone to resist the temptation to feed the koi during the beautiful January thaw they just had. The koi digestive system can’t handle food yet. The sun may be warm and the fish react but there is another month of freezing coming. It is nice to see the fish without all the ice. Their next scheduled meeting will be in April, spring auction, membership dues, plans for the coming year.

January 2017
Ken Houtman, of Great Ponds & KS of West Michigan reports everything has been quiet just like our Koi. We do not meet again until April. We had a wonderful Christmas dinner party with gifts for all. We elected two new officers to serve for the next couple of years and we selected a koi person of the year. The weather has turned cold and the ponds are at rest.

Items donated do not have to be fish or pond related and all proceeds go to the club to help build the clubs funds. They will have their annual koi photo contest at their October meeting.

June
Ken Houtman, of Great Ponds & KS of West Michigan, said their club had the first meeting of the year and it included an auction of many donations brought in by the membership. There were a lot of water plants. They should have a great collection of member pond gardens to visit throughout the year. Their display at the Grand Rapids Home & Garden show brought in a few new members and was deemed to be successful. Membership dues were collected and their club is off to a good start for the New Year. Their next meeting is going to include discussion of some of the finer points of a few different classification of koi.

February
Ken Houtman, of Great Ponds & KS of West Michigan, said they have all been enjoying the Holidays without doing too much with the koi. They should all be resting comfortably (they hope) at the bottoms of their ponds. The main chore around there is to make sure the ponds do not freeze over too solid. As a club function they are having a booth at the Grand Rapids Home and Garden Show being held in early March. Their first regular scheduled meeting will happen in April.
