Dennis Long, of Metro-Detroit Pond & Garden Club, reports the club had a wonderful Pond Tour this past July. We had a little rain during the day but it did not stop the 534 attendees. Everyone had a great time and they were greatly surprised at what they saw (considering all the negative press that Detroit gets recently). Our major attraction was a garden and water feature in the Palmer Woods subdivision of Detroit. This was at a home designed by world famous architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. In Aug we had our late summer event; the theme was “A Salute to the Troops.” Everyone came dressed in military or patriotic colors and there were many military items on display. We had two guests who are members of The Tuskegee Airmen. A great time was had by all meeting, eating and playing games. Our club will be in Manistee, MI for our planning retreat in Sep and our last meeting for the year in Oxford, MI. We then look forward to Dec for our Holiday Party. We hope every club had a wonderful year, just as we did. Check out their website at http://metrodetroitpondandgardenclub.org/.

Dennis Long, of Metro-Detroit Pond & Garden Club, reports the club had our 2013 Planning retreat in Mannistee, MI, with 9 members present. We had many things to talk about and plan for next year and we got a lot done before we went touring. We saw an antique wooden boat parade down Mannistee River and there was also a street fair. The first ever koi show in Michigan was a great success: MKPC teamed with the IKONA club and they did a great job. Our club had many volunteers helping out and our club president took home the trophy for Young Champion. It was a fun experience and we all had a good time. Check out their website at http://metrodetroitpondandgardenclub.org/.

Dennis Long, of Metro-Detroit Pond & Garden Club, reports they presented Gary & Shirley Madden with their club’s Koi Person of the Year Award. They were very happy. The Club celebrated its 10 year anniversary Pond Tour this July and looks forward to many more exciting years. We are also looking forwarded to the first Koi Show in Michigan. Let’s all support IKONA & MKPC this Labor Day weekend. Check out their website at http://metrodetroitpondandgardenclub.org/.

Dennis Long, of Metro-Detroit Pond & Garden Club, reports the club is celebrating its 10 year anniversary this year. We want to thank everyone who has given their support over the years. We hope you will continue to support us as we strive to educate our friends, neighbors and all who are interested in this wonderful hobby. Our membership is growing and more households are getting into the pond, koi and gardening hobby. Someone coined the term “Staycation” meaning staying home and enjoying your pond, koi and beautiful garden. When we are not at home we hope to continue visiting other cities and their koi shows and pond tours. This year we selected Gary & Shirley Madden as our “Koi Persons of the Year. They always show great passion for the club and work very hard on whatever project they take on. So thanks again, Gray & Shirley. Check out their website at http://metrodetroitpondandgardenclub.org/
