Chris Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said they have Larry Nau and his wife, Lily, doing a presentation of lotus for their May meeting. The club will be cleaning out the Fair Pond for the summer and Fair in August. Next month, June will be their Koi Show at Mastersons in East Aurora.

Chris Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said that in April, they will be holding their elections. They are also going to be hosting a competition with frog houses that Mastersons Garden Center donated to the club. They are to decorate them and bring pictures back for a little creative fun. They will be going out and setting up the County Fair pond that they have taken care of for years. Final touches are going on for the koi show scheduled for Father’s Day weekend this June. They are all waiting for the weather to break so they can open up their ponds.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said their club will be having their annual photo contest this month. Their judge, Mary Lou Frost, from a local photo club, will judge their photos on Flora, Fauna and Ponds. Awards will be given. Plans are moving forward for their annual Koi Show this June. It will be at Mastersons Garden Center in East Aurora. The chairman for this is Ray Lucas. They have some great speakers lined up for the event.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said their club made up calendars with pictures from their pond tour to sell. They have their president, John, speaking on filters this month and they continue to prepare for the Koi Show at Mastersons Garden Center this June.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said their club had a nice Christmas party the beginning of December. They had fish food as favors and many great door prizes. There is no general meeting in January. February will have their president demo a DIY on filters for the general meeting. Their koi show this year will be the weekend of June 17 & 18 at Mastersons Garden Center in East Aurora. Ray “Kingfish” Lucas is their chairperson for the event.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said that this month they will have Kevin from Pond Nets of Orchard Park speak. The club is getting ready for the fall festival at Reinstein Woods. The club will have a booth with information along with a sand fish craft for the children to make. They also hand out fish shaped crackers and candy to keep with their theme.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said their July meeting will be held at Arbordale Nurseries in Getzville, NY. The topic will be Amphibians. Brenda McCormick, from the Western New York Herpetological Society, will be the presenter. It will be Christmas in July as a local nursery Masterson donated frog houses to the club, each member will receive one. The club will be holding their annual Koi Show at Abordales on July 9th and 10th. They will have members show their koi and demos on pond products and Bonsai trees are scheduled. A basket raffle and auction will be on Sunday. On July 16th, they will have their South towns Pond Tour. They have seven stops with a picnic at the last pond. A group of members did get together and cleaned the Erie County Fair Koi Pond. Getting it ready for the fair in August.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said that in June they plan a major auction at their meeting. The koi show is just around the corner in July as is the pond tour which will be in the south towns this year. Their pond squad has been out helping members open their ponds. They’re looking forward to a great summer.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said that last month they had a great turn out for their Photo contest; check out their website. This month the topic of their presenter will be aquaponics. The weather is not agreeing with them so they are somewhat behind in opening their personal ponds and the ponds their club helps care for. Their Koi Show is set for July as is their Pond Tour.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said their February meeting was cancelled due to the weather. Their March meeting is the annual Photo Contest with categories of flora fauna and ponds. The Koi show date has been set for July 9 and 10th. The Pond Tour in the south towns this year on July 16th.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said they are looking forward to Dan Masterson speak at their February meeting on bee keeping and their importance to our gardens. They are starting to plan to have the Koi Show in July; details to follow. February is membership month so renewals are coming in. The Pond Tour will be in the south towns this year. They have two ponds already on the list.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said they held their Christmas party the night of their regularly scheduled December meeting. A good time was had by all. January they will be holding their elections. They have a founding father of their club coming to speak: Tom Towers. They are working on this years speaker list. They finally received some cold and snow!

Christine Wilkolaski, VP of the Niagara Frontier K&PC, gave a presentation by showing photos and videos from two NFKPC pond tours (2015 & 2014). They are holding their Christmas Party on Dec. 4th. This year they will have a “Dish to Passed” celebration consisting of hor d’orves and desserts.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said that their speaker this month is Dr. Wayne Gail, Clinical Assistant Professor, Dept. of Social and Preventive Medicine Univ. of Buffalo. His topic is Dragon Flies, Stone Flies, Damsel Flies and other Pond Monsters.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said the club is getting ready for the Reinstein Fall Festival 9/19. They host a tent and do sand art of aquatic animals with the kids and have a display for the adults to look at and ask questions. They even hand out packages of fish crackers and Swedish fish to the kids. They also close up the pond that they built there for the winter. Their September meeting had the “plant whisper” from Rochester, NY come and discuss plants.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said that they just finished their Pond Tour of the north towns this month. The weather held off for the most part and it was very enjoyable. 6 pond stops and vendor stops ended with a great picnic and entertainment. They now are into their local fair season and the club will man the koi pond at the Erie County Fair. They have a permanent pond display and members answer questions from the fair visitors. Their meeting for August will have a presentation on the pond tour from earlier in the month.

Members volunteer time at their fair pond answering questions about ponds and their club. It is a chance to get new members to join. Their last public function will be next month at Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve Fall Festival. They built a pond there years ago. They do craft activity with the kids; usually a form of fish shaped sand art and answer questions from the adults.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said that June was a busy month. The club was present for Lily Fest at Bergens Water Gardens helping the Genesee Valley Club and with their own koi show at Abordales nursery. Koi were shown by members. Various speakers from the water quality, water features, orchids, and bonsai. The auction went well. Awards will be given out at the July meeting. In July, they prepare for the pond tour in the Northtowns. They have 6 ponds and one vendor on tour. The date is August 1st. The club will be represented by one member as a guest speaker for the tropical fish club of Erie County this month. Busy summer in New York.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said they are getting ready for their koi show June 21-22nd. It will be held at Masterson’s Garden Center in East Aurora, NY. Donations are coming in for their auction and basket raffles. They will have the showing of various members koi. Along with a Basket raffle, this year they teamed up with the Eastern Bonsai Society. They will have a bonsai tree exhibit set up. Small goldfish will be available with a packet of food to children who attend. They hope to instill the love of fish keeping in the young. Final plans for the South Towns Pond Tour set for July 26th are complete. They will have 7 stops this year. Starting at Elderwood assisted living facility and ending with a picnic at the last home.

A July date has been set for their pond tour of the south towns. They have cleaned and opened their ponds at the fair grounds and Reinstein Woods. They are happy that spring is finally here!!

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said they will have guest speaker Larry Nau for their April meeting. The topic is all the laws that went into effect last month in NY about invasive species. Koi and many of their pond plants have been affected by this. Their Koi Show is scheduled for June 27th & 28th. Their Pond Tour will be August 1st. With the long extreme cold winter, many members have experienced loss of fish.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said the month of March they will be having their photo contest. Three categories: flora, fauna, and ponds. First and second place for each and a special people’s choice award will be awarded. They will be having Larry Nau, from Bergens water gardens, speak in April about all the laws that are going into affect there in New York (March 10th) with their koi considered an invasive species and some of their pond plants that will be prohibited to buy or buy with warnings attached. Many of them are very concerned about these laws. They did set their Pond Tour this year for August 2nd. It is finally in the two digets there. Maybe in the 30’s this week between the bitter cold and snow; not sure when members will be able to get to their ponds and survey the damage.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said October’s meeting went very well with Larry Nau talking about carnivorous plants. November they will have Greg Young talk on closing your pond. December will be Christmas Party and January will be elections.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said they are working hard finding homes for koi and goldfish. They have their over and under group still working into the fall. All September activities went well. Their guest speaker this month will be Larry Nau on carnivorous plants and their ponds. Perfect for Halloween, photos and live specimens will be shown on how to incorporate them into their ponds. They are looking towards elections in January and plans are complete for their Christmas party.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said they are preparing for the Fall Festival at Reinstien Woods Nature Preserve on Sept. 20th. Their meeting will be a group round table like discussion on pond and koi keeping. Groups will get questions and see if they can answer other members can chime in as they are discussed as a whole. A poll will be done to see what topics they would like to see as future speakers. They have had a higher than normal calls of people having koi and needing to find them homes. They have their over and under club working extra this year finding homes for them.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said their koi show was a great success!  They will be holding their South Towns Pond Tour July 26th.  They will have a total of 8 stops.  They begin at Elderwood assisted living facility where a member built a pond for them a few years ago.  They will stop at a local water garden center and see 6 members’ ponds ending at a catered picnic as the last stop.  A full day is planned.  Their guest speaker will be their own member Greg Young on water quality.  In August they will start signups for their representation at the Fair.  Their summer is going fast.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K& PC, said that last month their guest speaker was on bees and the importance of them in all types of gardens.  This month will be their photo contest with categories of pond, flora, and fauna.  Awards will be given, they will have a guest speaker from a local camera/photography club as judge.  Plans have started for their Pond Tour in July.  It will be directed to the south towns.  Discussions about a koi show are occurring.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said their November meeting will have Tom Towers as their guest speaker.  He is one of the Founding Fathers of the NFKPC.  He will talk about the beginnings of the club.  He will also bring products for their ponds that he will be giving away by way of a contest that night.  He works for one of their local pet stores that has supported their club for years.  They look forward to the presentation.  Plans are complete for Christmas Party which will be on their normal meeting night in December.  Mel Barutha, of South Carolina K&WGS, said they are preparing for their annual election of board members for 2014 at the November meeting.  Most of the 2013 board members have shown interest to stay for one more year but they do open up the nominations for other interested people to put their hat in the ring in order to encourage other members to be active on the Board.  They feel that this has kept their board fresh with ideas.  The meeting will also feature a chili cook-off.  With all the good cooks in their club there is bound to be awesome chili to taste and enjoy.  The month of December has normally been their annual Christmas party but due to time constraints they are moving the party to January as a beginning of the year celebration.  They will still have their Chinese Christmas exchange because that is too much fun to give up.  Of course, the gifts must be fish or garden related.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, reported that October will be a two year in review. Power points of the events of the last two years of the club will be shown and a round table discussion will be held. They attended the Fall Festival last month at Reinstein Woods. They made around three hundred sand art fish magnets with kids as well as educating their parents about ponding and pond fish. It was a great day. Plans are in the works for their Christmas Party which will be held on their regular meeting night in December. November they will have a founding member of the club talk about the beginnings of their club.

Christine Wilkolaski, of the Niagara Frontier K&PC, said Sep’s meeting will be Larry Nau as their guest speaker. They are ready for the Fall Festival at Reinstein Woods. They set up an information tent and children’s activity (fish sand art) for this event. This will be Sep 28th. They are in the process of updating their website.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said they are currently at the Erie County Fair manning a permanent exhibit of a pond and garden. The club built this pond years ago; they have a guest speaker re: Cermedia, a new filter material for their August meeting. They are preparing for the Reinstein Fall Festival next month. This is a great time to educate families on Ponding and fish.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said the club is getting ready for the koi show next month on June 22-23rd at Masterson’s Garden Center in East Aurora. A group of members will be opening the Fair and Reinstein Woods ponds this weekend. The weather there has them a little behind in opening ponds. They are also working on the Pond Tour set in later July.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, reports that Dr. Helen Roberts gave a talk on koi health at their November meeting.  They are planning for their Christmas Party which will be their regular meeting night for December.  Elections will be held in January.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, reports they participated in the Reinstein Woods Fall Festival in September.  It was a great time for all.  Adults asked questions about their club and the photo display they had set up.  Children made sand art to take home some of the fish and other nature images.  The club looks forward to being a part of it next year.  Their October meeting will be at Reinstein Woods with the presentation of “Landscaping with Native Plants.”  They will be having Dr. Helen Roberts talk at their November meeting.  They are planning their Christmas Party to fall on the same night as their regular meeting.

Christine Wikolaski, of Niagara Frontier K&PC, said they held their Koi Show at Mastersons in June.  It was great weather and many people came through and asked questions.  Their speaker for July is on the topic of Landscape architecture.  July will also be their Pond Tour.  They have 12 stops this year touring the Southtowns of Buffalo, NY.  They will be getting ready for the local county fair in August.  They care for a pond there and answer questions during the fair.

Next meeting is June 8th.  Their members are asked to bring extra plant, garden, and pond related items for the MEGA AUCTION.  Their Koi Show will be held at Masterson’s Garden Center on June 23-24th.

Christine Wikolaski, said they were asked to light up the Koi Pond at the Buffalo Botanical Gardens for a special event called “Night Lights.” Members allowed them to borrow their lights and they were put into the pond. The event ran from Feb. 1st to Feb. 18th. The lights were then removed. They continue to go weekly to clean filters and check this pond. They had to cancel their January meeting due to weather. February’s meeting; elections were held. They had the Army Corp. of Engineers speak to the club. March will be their photo contest. They have June 22 and 23rd as their Koi Show at Masterson’s Garden Center. Their Pond Tour will be July 21st.

Christine Wilkolaski, of Niagara Frontier KC, reports they will be holding elections of officers at the Jan. meeting.  They have a guest speaker from the Army Corp of Engineers for the meeting.  They are starting to plan the Koi Show that will occur June 2012 at Masterson’s Garden Center.  They are also starting to look at dates in July for their club’s Pond Tour.  This will include the Southtowns’ members ponds this year.  They continue to check and clean the filters at the local Botanical Gardens.
