June
Lois Rosmarin, of Siskiyou Koi & Pond Club, reports May 5th and 6th our club had a booth at the 33rd annual Master Gardener Spring Fair in Jackson County. This is the largest plant event between San Francisco and Portland. Nearly 9,000 visitors attended last year and this year the aim was to break previous records. Nineteen members took turns in the booth answering questions about ponds and koi. We also sold koi raised by one of our members. The following week, at our regular May meeting we held our 6th Annual BBQ. Everyone in the community who is interested in the hobby, either already participating or curious is invited as guests of the club. The BBQ was held at the home of Joel and Priscilla Works. A number of years ago they put in a DIY pond that had not worked as well as they wished. When they joined the club their pond vision changed. Casey Arden, a local waterfall builder and club member, just completed a rebuild and talked about the work that was done. Matt and Tracy Flury from OK&WS in Roseburg came to teach us how to select tosai. They used live koi as examples. It was a great meeting! The rest of the summer we will meet in member yards and enjoy their ponds.  Their website at http://www.siskiyoukoiclub.com has been remodeled and is now back up, so be sure to check it out.
