The Low Country Koi Club last week held the June 2016 Club Meeting on June 06, 2016. The meeting was held at Carl’s house this month.

Discussions

The meeting had discussions about the Charleston Koi Show and a change to meeting dates. It was decided that because other events including our Pond Tour, the Pond tour up in Greenville and several of the regional Koi shows seem to occur on the second weekend of the month. Because of this the Low Country Koi Club meeting will be held on the first Sunday of each month. The July 2016 Club meeting will be held July 3rd, 2016.

Share the Knowledge

Everyone that keeps fish for any amount of time run into problems. The benefit of joining a club is the wealth of knowledge that the “group” has. We would like for you to share what you have learned. Write to us about a problem that you had and what the solution worked out to be. Let us gather the information so when others have a problem they can see they are not alone and the solution. At the end of the day we all want healthy fish in a beautiful environment.

Hope to see everyone July 3rd, 2016

Bernard Nesmith, of Low Country Koi Club, reports it is proud to present their 2015, 3rd Annual Koi Forum, to be hosted on Saturday, August 8th, at Wescott Park. This year’s forum is intended to reduce the anxiety associated with putting in and maintaining a pond.  As hobbyists, we find that although many are excited about the idea of having a pond and koi in their own backyards, they are overwhelmed by the process of getting there. Our guest speakers are: Chris Deer, from Tideline Aquatics, in Charleston, SC; Kevin Colopy, from Happy Koi of Greenville, in Greenville, SC; and Vicki Vaughan, from The Koi Store, in Watkinsville, GA. Topics will range from basic things to consider when designing your pond and how to build a pond, to aspects of maintaining and enjoying a pond, such as water quality, water plants, filtration (to include hydroponics/aquaponics), and fish health.  Check out their website at http://www.lowcountrykoiclub.com.

Bernard Nesmith, from Low Country Koi Club, reports the club hosted its first koi event on Aug 3, 2013 in Charleston, South Carolina. We were honored to have Mr. Taro Kodama as our speaker. As the guests arrived, we were very happy to welcome fellow koi hobbyists from other koi clubs. They came from as far as Tennessee to attend, so we were very excited to see them. The morning began with a wonderful light breakfast and the viewing of some beautiful koi that Mr. Kodama brought with him from top breeders such as Dainichi, Maruboshi, Omosako, etc. After an introduction of Mr. Taro Kodama by the Low Country Koi Club’s president, Mrs. Joy Newlin, the forum began. Mr. Kodama spoke on the important elements that contribute to the beauty of the koi. He talked about the body conformation, the quality of the koi and the pattern. The forum continued with Mr. Kodama talking about the development of the koi and taking questions from the hobbyists that attended. Mr. Kodama welcomed all questions and was happy to share his knowledge of koi answering all our questions. Check out their website at http://www.lowcountrykoiclub.com/.
