November 2016
Gary Floyd, of Amarillo KS, said they haven’t had a very good summer as they can’t seem to get together. They are all busy and many have had health issues. Gary has been moving his dad up to Amarillo for SATX and getting him settled in Amarillo. They are about to get that done so he has also been busy. He will have shoulder surgery on Tuesday and will be down for at least a week if all goes well. He was building a pond less pond for a friend and fell and hit an elbow on the front wall of the fall and wrecked his shoulder. Hopefully, next year they can rebuild their club with some active members who want to learn about koi.

June
Gary Floyd, of Amarillo Koi Society, said they are just getting into spring and beyond freezing. They have been blessed to not have the storms like the rest of the state so far. He is trying to get a small group of the club together to brainstorm how to get new members in. He was out at botanical gardens this weekend and had another visit with the director to see about being a guest at some of the other club meeting to see if any of the members of those clubs are interested in ponds and koi.

February
Gary & Debbie Floyd, of Amarillo KS, said their weather has changed; 31 degrees in the a.m. and high was 78. Tomorrow and for the next week they will be in the area of 60-70 with humidity levels around 10%. They are dry but did enjoy the warm weather they had today and will for the next week. Then they will see as in February they can have wild swings but not usually this wild. It is usually their coldest and worst month of winter, however, they seem to be staying warmed in the fall and colder longer in the spring. Gary is still going to try to get the club reinvigorated this spring and has talked to some of the garden clubs about their club to see if they can get some new blood.

January 2016
Gary & Debbie Floyd, of Amarillo KS, said they are in the middle of winter and have had a lot of snow in the last few weeks. They had a blizzard on Christmas weekend with 50-70 mile per hour winds. The snow drifts were as high as 5’ around her house and in other parts of the yard only inches deep. They are still melting the drifts off and the piles on the street and still around in places. The club is not doing anything at this time and they aren’t sure what to do to get the club going again. They will be thinking about it over the next few months and will get with the Botanical Gardens and see if they can stir up some interest with folks in the other garden clubs. They think that will be their best bet is to get some new blood into the hobby as they know the garden shops are still selling pond equipment and landscapers are still installing ponds. They will be contacting some of them; also, to see if they will share their club contact information. They will see if they can get attendance going again with folks that are interested in learning about koi and water gardens.

August
Gary & Debbie Floyd, of Amarillo KS, said they have not met as of this summer. Our condolences to Debbie who lost her mother July 22nd!

July
Gary & Debbie Floyd, of Amarillo KS, said they had quite a month in June. The club has no activities planned at this time. Debbie has been trying to revive Texas Association of Pond Societies. They will most likely get together late this summer in the Dallas Area and plan a state wide convention for next year. May was one of the wettest years on record for Amarillo and for Texas. They had over 12” of rain. Not much got done in May. June has not been as wet but they did get some rain. They have had rain for the last two nights for about ¾” of rain.

May
Gary & Debbie Floyd, of Amarillo KS, said the club has not started to meet as just last week they had freezing weather in the area and then back up to the 90s. They have been this way for about a month. Winter will just not go away; needless to say this is hard on the pond life. They will be trying to get together late this month or early next month. They do not have any specific plans as of today. They can’t wait for all the green to come back and hope they get rain soon; the dust storms are getting old. Never seen dry like they have had the past few years in their

April
Gary & Debbie Floyd, of Amarillo KS, received the ballot and will get it out asap. They are not officially meeting yet and they are warmer but still early. Debbie and Gary are going to do her best to get this club fired up again this spring. They did nothing last year and that is a shame. People seem to be real busy, including them. They are going to visit with the botanical gardens to see if they can ask some interest some of the other clubs that belong to the gardens. They got two copies of the article they wrote; wow! What a great job KOI USA did in getting the photos with the article. Thanks for letting them be a part of the magazine.

March
Gary & Debbie Floyd, of Amarillo KS, wanted to alert people about their published article in KOI USA called “Greenhouse Build.” They enjoy year round with a heated greenhouse.

January 2015
Gary & Debbie Floyd, of Amarillo KS, said they aren’t meeting in the winter but he is trying to get the club interested again and looking for new members who are new pond owners and want to learn. His koi pond is doing great with the greenhouse cove and central heating; even the lilies are still blooming. He added a 60 CFM blower to the interior layer of the two layers on the greenhouse cover. This makes the two layers blow up like a balloon and this has lowered his energy use by a lot. He had never done this since he has been covering the pond even though he has known you could but wished he had done this many years ago. Live and learn.

November
Gary & Debbie Floyd, of Amarillo KS, said the club has not had any activity and they are visiting to decide what to do.

June
Debbie & Gary Floyd, of Amarillo KS, said that their water gardens and koi ponds are starting to respond to spring.  They have been lucky for the last few weeks as they have started getting some rain.  They are still over 20″ behind for the 12 month period.  Their web site was taken over as they did not get a bill for domain renewal so they bought a new site called www.amarillokoisoccietytx.org  and the email address will be for now until they decide what official name to use is info@amarillokoisocietytx.org.  Please continue to send emails to them at their house until they get their information back up on the site.  They will meet for the first time next month and discuss what they want to do for this year.  Hopefully KOI USA received their note of change of email address to garydebbie@garydebbie.com for contact information.  They would also like the new web site info published in KOI USA.

May
Gary & Debby Floyd, of Amarillo KS, said they have been having some technology problems and went to a new provider with new email address.  The club has not met yet this year except by calls on phone for business.  They hope to get fired up next month with next meeting.

March
Gary & Debbie Floyd, the club met for a short meeting to discuss the two ballots received and voted on the by-law changes. They are still basically in hibernation state as it is early for their season. They will further discuss the nomination of officers for AKCA in another meeting.

February
Gary & Debbie Floyd, of Amarillo KS, said they haven’t scheduled a meeting yet this year.  It is snowing with temps in the teens.  They are still way behind in rainfall but will take what they can get when they can get it.  Koi pond is doing fine and koi are warm and toasty in the greenhouse he puts up each year.  They had sent some pictures of their pond and new koi that was handpicked by Ron Goforth in 2009 from Dainichi farm (beautiful koi!).

January
Gary & Debbie Floyd, of Amarillo KS, said they have not yet scheduled a meeting for the club for this year.  They are about three months from that point.  FYI: Carl Holtman lost his wife suddenly just a few days before Christmas.  He was the original promoter of the first pond club there in Amarillo and one of a few founding members of TAPS and AKS.  Lisa will be missed.
