Donny Allen, of E.A.S.Y. Koi Pond & Water Garden Club, reports our July 30th meeting was held at fellow members home, Erica and Alan of Oak Leaf, Texas. Snacks were served while the meeting was bought to order. We discussed changes they had made to their pond such as filtration, a floating bog and a screen cover over half the pond to help out the koi with our Texas heat. Great ideas were shared as we walked out to take a look at their beautiful pond and koi. Also during this meeting we held our annual plant swap. It’s a fun way to share any excess of plants we might have while learning growing tips at the same time! Our 50/50 pot was won by Susan. It was agreed to have a field trip for our next meeting on Aug 16th . We are all to meet at the Dallas World Aquarium @ 10:30 a.m. in downtown Dallas, Texas. Everyone is asked to wear our club t-shirts. More news on that trip to come……Our next meeting will be at the home of members Renee and Chuck on Sept 17th. After our meeting we will hold our annual fund raiser, our koi auction! Everyone is asked to bring pond and koi related items to donate for the auction. Can’t wait to see all the new ideas and bid on them. Check out their page at https://www.facebook.com/EASYKoi/.

Donny Allen, of E.A.S.Y. Koi Pond & Water Garden Club, reports we are blessed to be able to benefit from a venture known as The John Bunker Sands Wetland Center which is located near us. We recently paid a visit to this facility and were so impressed with what this wetland does for our community. This wetland is 102,000 acre feet of water retrieved from the Trinity River and the wetland uses plants of many types to filter this water to be used as our drinking water in our homes. Its construction averted a true water emergency in this area. I think we all got an education in the importance of aquatic plant life in our own ponds as well as ideas on varieties of plants for the best results.
