Their next meeting will be at the home of Kevin and Sandra, their guest speakers will be Rick LoBello and Diane Perez, education specialists with the El Paso Zoo.

Ralph Smith, of Southwest K&PA, thanks Gaston and Olympic Cyr for a great BBQ bash at their last meeting. Also, congratulations to Christa Schafer (Don and Neill Harrawood granddaughter) who just won the 2017 Miss El Paso pageant. Their 2017 Pond Tour is set for September 24, 2017.

Ralph Smith, of Southwest K&PA, said they wish to thank the Brannon and Mary Lou Rasberry for hosting their last meeting. Their next meeting will be held at the home of Gaston and Olympia Cyr as they discussed their upcoming 2017 Pond Tour on Sept. 24th.

Ralph Smith, of Southwest K&PA, said what a great meeting and BBQ at the home of Dr. Carol Miller. Carol is involved in Wildlife Rescue and made a great presentation about this subject, as well as showing her facility for birds, rabbits, etc. and discussing her four ponds. Their next meeting will be held at the home of Brannon and Mary Rasberry. They both are in the Honey Bee survival business and will show them how to relocate swarms of bees on a regular basis.

Ralph Smith, of Southwest K&PA, said their first pond-side meeting of 2017 was held at the home of Don & Nell Harrawood. They thanked then and their guest speaker, Danny Arellano, from Paloma Lofts entitled “The Fancy Pigeon Hobby.” Their next meeting will be hosted by Dr Carol Miller, with a representative from Feathered Farm Rescue as their guest speaker. They also welcome their new member, Charles Dodson.

SKAPA is currently in the process of changing their website name to www.myskapa.org. . Their first meeting of the year will be held at the home of Don and Neil Harrawood, and back by popular demand, guest speaker and member, Danny Arellano entitled “The Fancy Pigeon Hobby.”

They were very fortunate to have them join them. SKAPA’s next meeting will be at the home of Larry & Jeanette Lockard.

Don Harrawood talked on “What determines the quality of Koi.” SLAPA would like to welcome new member Dr. Luzette Suau, DVM, who has volunteered to represent their club in veterinary medicine.

Their last meeting was cancelled due to high winds with dust. Their next meeting will be at the home of Ken & Susie Austin with guest speaker, Karen Pattist, of Koi Organization International.

Ralph Smith, of Southwest K&PA, reported that Mark & Gail Nash hosted a great meeting; showed off their new pond and waterfall. This year’s pond tour was GREAT, thanks to their pond tour chairperson, Margaret Gallardo and Team SKAPA. Funds from this event will benefit the Second Chance Wildlife Rescue. Jackie Allsup, of the Northern Iowa P&KC, reported that they held their last meeting at the home of Dennis and Kathie Manful. A potluck was enjoyed by all. They discussed the past pond tour and voted to donate some of the profits to help finance a fountain that will be put up in Angel Park. Angel Park is constructed in memory of 2 area girls that were kidnapped and killed. Club member, Mary Schwake, gave a great talk on closing ponds followed by an open discussion on the topic and what everyone else is doing. They welcomed new member Marcia Hahn and her sister to the meeting. The leaves are turning there and beginning to drop, so leaf nets are all coming out of storage.

Ralph Smith, of Southwest K&PA, reported that another great meeting was had with Vickie and Jack Kidd hosting, as they discussed SKAPA’s upcoming annual Pond Tour on October 5 & 6th. Their next meeting will be hosted by Mark and Gail Nash.

Ralph Smith, of Southwest K&PA, said another great meeting was held with Juan and Andrea Elizondo being the perfect hosts. Their next meeting will be hosted by Vickie & Jack Kidd, with guest speaker Carol Miller speaking on the Chihuahuan Desert Wildlife Animal Rescue Society.

Congratulations to SKAPA member Oscar Leeser as he takes office as Mayor of El Paso after winning with 76% of the vote.

They enjoyed Larry & Jeannette Lockards “Under the Sea Adventures” and on a “Africa Safari,” narrated by the Lockards, who actually experienced these adventures and survived it just in time for SKAPA’s great GALA.

The Southwest K&PA are celebrating their 17th year as a club.  They had a great meeting at Gaston & Olympia Cyr’s home.  Their Certified Koi Keeper, Ken Austin, presented “Types of Ponds.”  On Oct. 27th they will meet at Dorris Van Doren Library (home of SKAPA’s Aquarium & Koi).  Their Christmas Gala will be held on Dec. 15th.

Ralph Smith, of Southwest K&PA, said their regular monthly meeting will be held at the home of Gaston & Olympia Cyr.  This meeting will include a Pot Luck dinner on Sept. 23rd.  In August, Ken & Susie Austin hosted a 2 day meeting and workshop with Karen Pattist, a koi hobbyist and Chairman of Koi Organisation International, who demonstrated how to safely net capture koi in an orderly fashion with reduced stress.  Also, “Being a Better Observer and Diagnosing Koi ProblemsThrough Behavior.”  They will be holding elections at their October meeting.

Ralph Smith, of Southwest K&PA, would like to thank their guest speaker, Steve Coop, of NOVARTIS Animal Health, who talked on the new CAVOY Vaccination for KHV at the home of Jaime & Margaret Carrillo.  Their club Vet., Dr. Tom McCabe, has been invited and has accepted a spot in the Novartis Charleston, SC lab.  A great time was had by all as they celebrated their KHA Don Harrawood’s birthday and being voted “SKAPA’s 2012 Koi Person of the Year.”  Their August meeting will be held on two days at the home of Ken & Susie Austin.  Their featured speaker is Karen Pattist, Director of KOI.  Karen will conduct a training session and will demonstrate how to safely net and capture koi.  On the 2nd day, Karen will conduct on “Being a Better Observer – Diagnosing Koi problems through their Behavior.”
