UTAH WATER GARDEN & KOI SOCIETY
Shirley Simmonds, of Utah Water Garden & Koi Club, reports we are so excited! February meeting was changed at the last min. And it was fabulous! We watched a YouTube video of Andy Moo from Anaheim, CA. You probably know him personally, and it was so good, then we had a Q and A and everyone loved it! Of course pie for our treat! Shirley Simmonds, of Utah Water Garden & Koi Club, reports the 18th Annual POND TOUR in the greater SLC valley August 5-6, 2017 is the highlight of the year! Every year we have different ponds, we go fast and furious to see 15-23 ponds in 2 days! Some have koi as large as 3 feet! The tour seems to get better every year! The Utah Water Garden and Koi Club is digging out of the snow and finding our Koi are happily coming out of hibernation! This was a very cold winter, and many members of our club were very concerned some of our scaled friends might not make it. Water temps are still in the low 40’s, so we dare not to feed them yet! They are moving about slowly, just like me, and not quite looking for food but cruising all the same. We had our first meeting in February and kept it about gardens because we never know what the weather holds! Our meeting was at the Red Butte Gardens in SLC and they have a wonderful classroom that we meet in to learn about conservation gardening. March 16th, our very own Terry Maxfield KHA is bringing his expertise on KOI health at the Cactus and Tropicals store in Draper, UT. We always benefit learning more about how to keep our friends healthy. In April, we have a botanist that will help us learn about unusual marginal and water plants that KOI love to eat! Fresh veggies are good for everyone, even our wet friends! We will be pond side if the weather permits, with the ability to go indoors if the need arises. SLC is our destination. May brings us pond side again with an ability to run indoors if needed. Crazy Utah weather can turn in an instant! We will be learning about landscape lighting to show off our ponds.
