Meets: 2nd Saturday or Sunday @ 1:30 pm

September
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they are meeting at Larry & Maggi Nielson’s Sept. 10th. Winterizing one’s pond will be the topic along with voting on club officers if they can’t set an October meeting. They’ve had more people join this year, even after they did the members-only pond tour. The club is also trying to clean out the club trailer of club paraphernalia at the meetings, either door or raffle prizes of mugs, hats & sweatshirts.

August
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said their August meeting will be at Pam & Dave Sharp’s. Potluck as usual with the hope of getting a discussion going on “Anything new?” As in, if a member has done anything new to their pond this season. Their members only pond tour in July went very well and even gained 3 new member families.

July
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they are having a members-only pond tour Saturday, July 15th. They have had members joining through facebook by sending Jan their E-mail addresses. With a members only tour, the hosts get to go on the tour as well. The whole tour takes about 3 hours. Plus, all members are together to ask questions or just chat with each other. There is no cost to the club as members print out their own maps.

June
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they will be meeting June 11th at Pam & Dave Sharp’s. Another new pond in club, so hoping for another great turn-out. Pam & Dave adopted/purchased some beautiful koi from another member who decided to take out their pond. The Sharps are on their 4th pond as they moved 4 times and Pam never was able to keep very many of the koi from prior ponds. Thus, this worked out and she has koi as large as she probably could have grown in the last 25-30 years since she started the hobby.

May
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they had a great turn out for the 1st meeting of the year in April. Andrea Mackay was their hostess; hers is a large property along the Yakima River. Not so much a fish pond though, she said there are koi & goldfish in it. Mostly, it is a large duck pond. She also had chickens and turkeys wandering the park like property. It was quite fun and different. Current plan is to do another members only pond tour, preferably end of June this year. Next meeting is June 11th at Pam & Dave Sharp’s.

April
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they will be having their first meeting of the year, April 23rd, at 2 p.m. at a pond host they have never been to: Andrea Mackey. This will be their spring wake up meeting as they’ve had a late spring. Time to count the interested members and see what activities they have energy to do. She’s hoping that it being a new place folks will show up to see and pay their dues for the year.

March
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said that she is currently trying to get people to sign up for meeting dates April through September. So far, she has only gotten 1 person who signed up for June. They have to find a new secretary as Barb resigned; they’re going RVing this summer. Thus we’re barely moving into spring around there.

February
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they are still snow covered (very unusual for then by this date) so not thinking spring as of yet. Thus, have nothing to report.

January 2017
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they’re all hibernating under snow with more to come over the weekend. There’s actually liquid water under the great picture she attached. She put window screening over the ponds and the snow sits on that, several inches above the water surface.

September
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they had their September this afternoon. They nominated officers…and everyone currently on the board was willing to do it for another term and no one was interested in running against them. Also, the club agreed to an October dinner meeting to vote in officers. She will call for reservations for the October meeting and VP, Phyliss, is going to set up the Christmas meeting at a similar restaurant that is in the process of building a whole new place, where they can overlook the Columbia River. November they do not meet. After the Christmas party they will not meet again until April. Winter break!

August
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said the club met yesterday at Gunar Rieksts & Carmen Stafford’s pond August 7th with a good turnout. They had 2 past members donate a lot of pond related items for their raffle & door prize tables. The draw in new members and keep up interest with current members, they are having a members-only pond tour. 6 ponds were volunteered easily, unlike public tours. This has also gotten people who rarely make meetings, to get their dues mailed in plus the addition of new members. The win/win, this pond tour cost nothing to produce, no working with vendors or ticket sales and only required e-mail to get the word out to members. It will be done caravan style, so the owners can do the tour at the same time; no wasting all day for people to come by. If all goes well, I suspect this to be, if not twice during the season, an annual event.

July
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said the club went through some changes this last month. The President, Jisica Watkins, resigned which, via their by-laws slotted Jan into the President’s seat, immediately. A good thing as that very morning the President needed to be at the bank to switch the banking acc’t. from the old treasurer, Jamie Lennick, to the new treasurer, Jean Hutfles, plus get the new President’s name on the acc’t. Next rec./business meeting, July 3rd. Hopefully they can get a V.P. re-instated and not run with the seat vacant till elections in the fall. One of the items she is proposing is a members-only pond tour caravan, going to ponds that members don’t always see due to space constraints and/or the ability to host a meeting.

June
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they met at the Aiello’s home & pond. They all ended up inside due to the triple digit heat. Good food, good discussions,; 19 attended. Volunteers for the Summer Solstice booth, 6/18, to help set up or tear down gained 4 more people at the meeting. Chairperson, Jan Jordan, got the okay to update the Application for Membership to pass out at the Solstice to those interested. July’s meeting will be at Brenda Sullivan’s the 1st Sunday of the month (7/3). They all hope the weather cooperates.

May
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they met 2 weeks ago at the Hamilton Pond, after a quick meeting they enjoyed the lovely day and potluck. In June they meet at another member’s pond; the Aiello’s. June 18th the club has purchased booth space at the Master Gardener Summer Solstice taking place in their Demonstration Garden. Members will promote the club and are free to sell any plants or fish they’d like to bring. Jan Jordan is chairing the booth, Maggi Nielson & Phyliss Hirschel have volunteered to help out.

April
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they had their first meeting of 2016. Small turn out, but good discussion. They are hoping to get involved with a couple of community activities. One is being greeters during the Secret Garden Tour that supports the local children’s theater. The 2nd would be a booth at the Master Garden Summer Solstice in June. Next meeting will be a pond side at the Hamilton’s 1st Sunday in May.

March
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they are quiet for now.

Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they had their fall meeting 9/5 at the home of Luann & Gene Garner in Hermiston, OR. They voted in new officers. President: Jisica Watkins; V.P. – Jan Jordan; Secretary – Barbara Gaines & Treasurer – Randy Watkins. Future events were discussed to consider what direction members would like to see the club go towards in 2016.

August
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they had over 20 people go on a caravan to a nearby city, have lunch and view Leslie Eno’s garden on acreage, it was amazing. Hot temps, but much fun. She included a picture. In August, they’ll be crossing the border into Oregon and visiting club members Gene & Luann Garner at their home and pond.

July
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they had to cancel their June meeting due to the extreme triple digit heat. The hosts, Robert & Norlene Schuyler didn’t feel they could fit 2 dozen folks into their small living room. The next social meeting will be July 18th at the home of Frank & Beverly Aiello; they are hoping the heat wave will be over. August 1st finds them at the home of the club’s VP, Jisica Watkins, and her husband Randy. Again, they are hoping the weather cooperates.

June
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they had a great turn out at her house in May. About 2 dozen showed up to enjoy a potluck and companionship of those involved in the ponding hobby, even though it was Memorial Day weekend. A few of them are headed up to Spokane in Mid-June for, if not all, part of the PNKCA convention. Then at the end of June the club will meet at Norlene & Robert Schyuyler’s pond for a potluck in the evening.

July
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they are planning a road trip in July.  On the19th they will visit Prosser, a small farming community about30 minutes west of the Tri-Cities.  They will meet at a restaurant called the Golden Yan to eat lunch then they will caravan to see 2 gardens.  The first will be Linda Mackey’s, who also has Alpacas.  Then a little further down the road is “Leslie Enos Gardens.”  In August, they have another road trip into Oregon, where they have members who live in Hermiston.  That will be a potluck meeting; August 9th at Gene & Luann Garner’s pond.

June
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they have a meeting this coming Saturday (6/14) at Jim & Esther Rehwalt’s.  They’ve kind of slowed down a bit in that it looks like another year that they won’t have a pond tour as there aren’t enough volunteers, but they continue to happily meet at members’ homes through the ponding season.

July
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they are meeting regularly, but dates and times are now irregular and up to the host/hostess to fit into their schedules better. The last one had medium attendance at the home of Jamie & Dennis Lennicks. The July meeting will be at Maggi & Larry Nielson’s on the 20th; the plan is to build this meeting up more via e-mail. The last 3 meetings the host family has been nice enough to BBQ either hamburgers or hot dogs. They are still in the planning stages of their Sept. 7th pond tour.

June
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said that they’ve been toying with changing their meeting times and not keeping with the standard, so they can fit different schedules. Their June meeting will be later in the afternoon with the hope the hostess will have more shade at that time of day. They’re also doing it on a Saturday. They now have a Facebook page and have gained 1 new member for the club through it, and since there are only 19 current ‘likes,’ most of whom are members already, that’s pretty good.

May
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they had their 2nd meeting of the year on a lovely spring day at the home of Dan & Patti Wilson. It was a lovely drive in the countryside; of course, she found out later that it depended on the road one took. Lots of raffles and door prizes were handed out. They have a couple of plant/yard sales given by members this month and the next.

April
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they finally woke up in South Central Washington State. They had their first meeting on March 24th, and they gained 3 new members and lots of renewals. They enjoyed viewing President Treah Pierce and her husband Scott’s pond. Their next meeting will be April 21st and one of the new members volunteered to host.

March

January 2013
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said there is nothing going on as they’re hibernating.

November
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they met for an evening dinner get-together on election night.  It was sort of a celebration that the camPAINing season was over along with the end to their ponding season up north.  They had a very good turnout, and she thinks the restaurant appreciated their business as they had their whole back room to themselves.  Most of them have winterized and covered their ponds for the duration till spring.  Their next event, still in the planning stages, will be a ponding gift swap/exchange and dinner the 1st part of December.

October
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they have a fall meeting Oct. 14th when they’ll vote in new officers.  Currently settling dates for Christmas party in December.  October being the busiest month of all for them up north as they put ponds to bed for the winter.

September
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they did a Pond Tour Sept. 8th; turn out was low but enough to meet expenses.  The next club potluck meeting will be at Ron & Gloria Bodekers, Sept. 23rd.

August
Jan Jordan, of Mid Columbia K&PC, said they have an out-of-town function this weekend (8/4) at a member’s pond that lives in Hermiston (Gene & Luann Garner).  Otherwise gearing up for the pond tour Sept. 8th.

July
Jan Jordan, of MidColumbia K&PC, said they have firmed up doing a pond tour this year.  Jamie Lennick volunteered to chair the event.  They currently have 6 ponds on the tour and are getting things in place as far as booklets, posters, etc.  The pond tour will be the weekend after Labor Day in September.  More current, they will be having a speaker from Spokane’s club, Diana Lynn Rehn, give a class on koi nutrition July 21st at the home of Carmen Stafford.

June
Jan Jordan, of Mid-Columbia K&PC, said they are having a potluck & local pond builder speak at an all day event Saturday, June 2nd.  Wakin goldfish will be raffled off, other fish will be available, besides their usual door prizes and raffles.  This will be held at the Library on Union St. in Kennewick.
