Selecting Kohaku

Judge the following three koi. Click on your choice for first place and see how you did.
A ............... B .............. C

First Place: B The super shape, exceptional base white and consistent hi provides an extremely imposing overal effect. The kiwa is excellent except on the front offside periphery of the first hi ban. Close examination of the rest of the Koi indicates the rest of the kiwa is much more refined. This would demerit the Koi when superior quality Koi were in contention but in our three, it does not affect the selection. The pattern is plain, even simlple, but definitely not boring. This is and excellent example of how uncomplex patterns can look very impressive.

Second Place: A This is totally different to our first place selection, being flowery but having stunning white skin, highly defined kiwa with strickingly consistent hi of exceptional quality. The shape is however a problem as it is not at all formidable and belies the other attributes this Koi possesses. Indeed, in better quality competition this Koi would struggle dispite its merits. The stricking head pattern is enhanced by one red eye which in this context enhances the overall effect. The pattern and finish on the color of this Koi indicates that it is unlikely to further develop but on today's veiwing it is indeed impressive.

Third Place: C This Koi may well have attributes of quality but currently these are not well displayed. The pattern appears busy, and although this would be our number one selection for a Koi for the future, it is currently the third place.
