First Place: C This Koi offers us a very impressive package and is a formidable Koi. It has excellent conformation with superb base white on which a pleasing pattern of consistent and high quality hi is located, all of which is greatly enhanced by the presence of vital and in this case "glowing" lustre. Quality, unstained finnage appears clean and unblemished. The head is a major positive factor and sets off the overall impression to contribute significantly. The scale reticulation is OK but not great, which is clear if compared with Koi B. The overall extrememly imposing package renders this Koi a clear first place.
Second Place: B This Koi can consider itself unfortunate to have come up against Koi C, as in normal circumstances it's volume and impressive appearance would have rendered it an uncontentious first. It certainly has clear scale definition. Broad shoulders and deep hi pattern enhance the impression, but although good, in this company it's just not quite good enough. Head and fins also impress greatly but in the final analysis the lack of sparking lustre conspires with a slightly heavier appearance to render it marginally second. The undecided head pattern and pectoral blemishes renders the ultimate selction marginally less agonising.
Third Place: A This is a very interesting Koi which on first glance looks impressive and indeed is very attractive. Interesting head and consitent hi at first, disguises a lack of lustre and an unanimated shape. This becomes undeniable when comparing the lustre to Koi C or Koi B. We are seduced by the attractive head which looks good until put into its appropriate lesser perspective by comparing it with the head of Koi C which really is impressive. The lack of scale reticultion is also disappointing and exaggerated by the class of the competition although despite all this "nit picking" this too is a very nice Koi
