The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Tom Gates. There are 97 member clubs.
MINUTES:
Motion: To accept the minutes of March 9,2001. Motion by Mark, 2nd by Burt. Approved
MARCH FINANCIAL STATEMENT
: Carl handed out the March Financial report. Year to date, KOIUSA has a minus $8078.63 for net income. As of March 31st AKCA Semirlars has a net of $11,505.08.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
KOI USA: Joyce stated that they are trying to get an updated master list. Joyce has received 34 forms from the forms sent out regarding who gets KOI USA. These magazines are not for club libraries but to be distributed to new members. Buyers guide is on its way to the printer. Tom stated that we are getting 65-85% renewal rate from non koi club subscribers; 35% renewal from koi club members.
SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEES Spike said that the KHT program is off and running. Got Sandy's contract to her; received her comments last night. She wants an opinion by the Board on some of her thoughts; Spike handed out. Doesn't want to use the words diagnosis and treatment. She would also NOT like to post any antibiotic dosing regimes on the web site as well as the rest of the course; felt we may be opening ourselves up for some sort of exposure. Spike disagreed.; stated that we can all treat our own animals/fish. The outlines for the course are done except for the anatomy/physiology and the filter section. Curriculum review committee; 2 members participating so far. Goals for next month: complete review of the outlines and introduction; get Sandy's contract signed; get filter section started and Phil Isuzu into program.
MEMBERSHIP: Mark reported that he received the check and roster from the Austin Koi Club; small right now. Motion To accept the Austin Koi .... Motion by Mark, TO by Burt. Approved. Received a check from Nanaimo Fish Pond & Watergarden Assoc. a new club, by Gary Thorburn, 5460 Godfrey Rd., Nanainio, BC V97-272; no phone number listed .... (604) area code.

SPEAKERS GRANT: Tom asked about dividing speaker's money; for one speaker for max. up to $400 for transportation and one night lodging.

SEMINAR REPORTS
2001 SEMINAR: Mark stated three sponsors of various parties have cancelled out. We need a manufacturer, or? to step up to the plate. There have been a few changes in the speakers. The numbers are looking very good; all over 200. They want us to introduce ourselves to new people at the Seminar. Burt stated that he knows of three people going because of their club sponsoring them.
2002 SEMINAR: Mark encouraged them to get going; they just finished their koi show.
2003 SEMINARS: Burt stated that Nevada decided against holding the Seminar there. Carole received a letter from JoAnn Bogner, Secretary of the Atlanta Koi Club. In it, she states that Chris Miller has accepted responsibility for being chairperson for hosting the 2003 AKCA Seminar in Atlanta.

REPRESENTATIVE CONTACTS:
Written report submitted by Burt: Carl Fridenstine, of Santa Clara Valley Koi, said that they are working on a pond tour for 7/14; ballot sent in as well as Koi Person and Koi; bylaws were passed. Peter Enfield, Pacific Wonderland said that their last meeting was at a koi dealer's, Morning Light; a good new dealer; hasn't heard of any koi problems. Brenda Bonner, of San Francisco Day KC, said that they had a pond tour organizing meeting for 6/2 pond tour. Had a good koi show, now will start planning for the AKCA Seminar. Linda Montgomery, of Cascade K&GFS said that their next meeting will be a field trip to Morning Light at a koi dealer (has some ponds in greenhouses). They also went to Bluewater & Lady Bug fish & pond; sent in ballot on dues and board. John Trittschuh, of Florida East Coast, said that there is no meeting in March. AFKAPS show was good; had 250 fish in show. Meeting this month in Palm Coast area; thinking about buying a box of koi for their club. Chris Schroettinger, of Central Florida KC, said that they are winding down from AFKAPS show; last meeting was at Sea World. They are considering a fall pond tour. Norbun Watson, of Warner Robins KC, said that they had a guest speaker from Atlanta on plants & ponds. Their pond tour is 6/2. Arthur Manaker, of Nature's Coast K&WGC said that they had a joint meeting with Gainesville. Had several speakers including Don Hellard & Joe White on fish health & water quality. They are considering a day trip to Slocum's. Debby Tibbetts, of Southern Arizona KC said that their pond tour is May 13-14. They have 6 members going to Houston Seminar; their next meeting will be at Debby's. Nicolas St. Erne, D.V.M., moved to Phoenix; he will do a one day Seminar. Art Lembke, of MAKC said that their April meeting is to start planning a young koi show at Deep Creek Festival; they are also working on Koi America; have sent in their ballots and roster.
Written report submitted by Larry: Barry Berger, of the Greater Boston Koi Keepers says they still have ice on some of the shadiest ponds, but the water in most of the ponds is in the high forties. Darlene Jennings, of the Mid-Michigan P&WGC, says her club is working to receive a 501C status - nonprofit from the federal government. They are opening up their ponds after a long, hard winter. They didn't have any fish casualties. They have also put together a very informative newsletter with color pictures of member's ponds. Judy Endsley, of the Ohio Koi Club says she and another member are planning to attend die Houston Seminar. They had their first meeting on April 3rd Their club also voted to turn down the increase of AKCA dues.
Written report submitted by Mark: Claudia Herdernan, of Austin Po said that they had a booth at Zilker Garden Festival. They are getting ready for the June 23-24 pond tour. Voting next meeting; concerned about the impact on small clubs with the dues increase. She asked if we would consider making it a sliding scale with larger clubs paying more? Dan Robinson, of Lone Star, said that Virginia Joyner will be the new AKCA director (218: 469-2766) Excited about the Seminar. Ray Jordan, of Texas K&PCF, just returned from Japan. Club is still sponsoring scholarships to the Seminar; he is firming up the speaker list. ZNA Orange County met at Doug Wright's; discussed the October show; they will be using Fashion Island. They also worked on the summer pond tour; their club treasury is growing strong. They have 50 member families.
