Board Highlights
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Tom Gates. There are 100 member clubs.
SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE: Spike stated that the goal of the Koi Health Technician program is to make happy hobbyist by training KHTs (teaching them how to prevent sick fish and to help when problems occur). He met with Brett; didn't get enough info to see if he could do the entire program alone; he felt that he probably could. He presented three plans:
Plan A: Solo instructor; included political baggage and money;
Plan B: Committee of experts & advanced hobbyist to develop curriculum; problem is that there is no leader,
Plan C: Blend of A & B ? to include a leader (Brett) as well as additional experts & volunteer
Hobbyists to write and teach the curriculum. This will involve less money and preserves a leader.
Prep. of Curriculum: Paid professional, i.e. Brett, as leader. Sandy Yosha, DVM from Florida for the
koi health portion; George Blasiola whose specialty is nutrition.
Volunteers: Chris Neaves, from South Africa, to write filter section; Norm Meck, to write on water
quality; Burt Ballou, to write on ponds, and Spike Cover for management and to act as general
coordinator.
Review Committee - Galen Hansen to Chair. Committee to include: Andy Goodwin and Ron Goforth (Brett's choices), Jim Reilly, Masaki Okomoto, Rob Hildreth, and Roark (an amateur fish fixer from Simi Valley Course: To include 10 chapters; to be put up on the web site. Brett has spent about 1 1/2 days on this. He still has to submit a schedule to Spike. Spike also has to run Plan C by Brett. Spike recommended that we let the $2500 approved for the project to stand.
