Highlights:
The
meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Larry Leverett. There was not a
quorum present, thus, no voting could take place. There are 104 member clubs.
MINUTES: Motion: To approve the Minutes of November 9,
2001. (Please note that Judy Caddies has proxies for 3 clubs, other than
Nishiki). Motion by Joyce, 2nd by Carl. Approved
NOVEMBER/DECEMBER FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Carl handed out the
financial statements for the months of November and December. He added $30,000
to our investment account in November; it is now up to $259,000. The net income
for KOI USA, for November, was $4,579.51. For December, its net income was a
minus $13,394.17. The net income, year to date, for the Seminars, is a minus
$14,713.72. He stated that we need to reprint the PPK3 guide; need to have it
reviewed first. Bob & Doug volunteered to review. The Health guides also
need to be reprinted. We originally printed 8,000; 70 are left; probably need
to reprint 3,000 more.
If
your club hasn't received their health guides, they will need to wait for the
reprint. Motion: To approve the Financial reports for November & December.
Motion by Joyce, 2nd by Doug. Approved.
COMMITTEE
REPORTS
KOI USA: Joyce reported that Tom
Graham and Cindy were rebuilding their computer; had a major crash. The
magazine is looking great. Joyce has had many wonderful comments on the last
issue
SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE: Spike and Burt
discussed the KRA program and insurance. Spike stated that there was no
contingency plan for all scenarios, i.e. koi professionals. This could be a
problem with getting insurance. Burt had a conversation with Wes Bannister who
said that our policy excludes koi professionals. Much discussion followed. We
need a complete curriculum before we have a meeting with Wes to get insurance
coverage for the KHA program. A number of goals still haven't been met i.e.:
posting another section on the web site, getting labs set for all three
regions, dates and cities, and getting the anatomy, physiology and biology
section written in draft. The filter section has been posted on the web site
and we now have bound manuscripts sent to KHAs, prep group and the CRC. Spike
stated that he has gotten a great deal on microscopes ($180); a monocular
scope. If interested, go through Wendy at unicol.com. Burt is working on tests
for the first section. Some goals for next month are: post another section on
the web site (nutrition); have WQ testing underway and the filter section test
ready to go; have all lab dates and locations set; and, and anatomy and
physiology section ready for review.
MEMBERSHIP: Doug reported that St. Louis Water
Gardening Club sent in their check, roster, etc. They have 300 family members.
Concern was expressed about sending so many guides to one club. Discussion
followed. Doug did tell Joe Summers that the club would probably not be getting
all the guides. Motion: To accept St. Louis Water Gardening Club as an AKCA
member club. Motion by Doug, 2nd by Carl. Approved Motion: Due to the extreme
expense of supplying clubs with the AKCA guides (all 4: pond, filter,
nutrition, health) motion to be effective immediately as follows: When a new
club meets all the AKCA requirements for membership and is accepted into AKCA.
AKCA will send the new club 1 copy of each guide as a sample and then that club
has 60 days to identify all its members that are KOI USA subscribers and then
we will send the remaining balance of 24 each of all 4 AKCA guides or if that
club identifies more than 25 club members that are KOI USA subscribers we will
send that number of each guide plus an additional 25%. As to existing clubs, in
the future we will only send 25 guides of any new or revised guides unless a
club sends a list identifying KOI USA subscribers in excess of 25; then we will
send that club 1 copy for each subscriber plus an additional 25% of that
number. Motion by Burt, 2nd by Carole. Approved. Two more clubs are talking
about joining AKCA, one in Alberta, Canada. Nancy & Frank Morales stated
that they are in the process of forming a new club; they have 24 family members.
Wanted to start a club for the Long Beach/Lakewood area; more local for them.
JUDGING: Bob stated that he will be
having a meeting with Gene Ewy and Galen Hansen on the 16th He is helping Ken
Gray for the speakers on the upcoming Seminars. Everything is OK. Doug designed
a new form for judges, informing us of what they've done for the year.
SPEAKERS GRANT: No report.
GUIDES: No report.
SEMINAR
REPORTS:
2002 SEMINAR: Burt reported that Sheila
Jackson is very enthusiastic; everything is squared away; they sent out a great
pamphlet.
2003 SEMINAR: Doug stated that the club is
having trouble getting hotels that will accommodate both vendor areas; banquet,
and Seminar rooms that are reasonable. Frank Comatois has gotten a great deal
on binders. Burt suggested going to their Convention & Visitors Bureau to
get information on the hotels.
2004/2005 SEMINARS: Open. Is your club
interested????

Directors‑Dan Alarid, Rodger Greer, Jerry Kyle and Georgia Vonk. And $500
was collected at their annual Holiday dinner towards an equipment trailer in
honor of their late Vice President Mike Serota. Their club continues to work
hard with the San Francisco Club on the 2002 AKCA Seminar packets that have been mailed to past participants. Art Lembke reports Mid
Atlantic KC Chapter holiday parties and annual gift exchange were great
successes and winter has finally settled into the east and the koi have settled
into their winter nap. Planning is ongoing for next years events. MAKC
requested AKCA Board clarification on the dealer definition prohibited from the
KHA program requesting only koi and koi product dealers be prohibited from this
program allowing, for example, koi art and water plant dealers to continue to
participate. The Olympic KC held their Holiday potluck and gift exchange at the
Roadhouse Nursery. They also report

Out of the Woods Koi Farm). Biding was vigorous. The holiday meal consisted of
Beef Tenderloin Roast prepared by Grady & Virginia Joiner complimented by

lack knowledge on koi. Alexandria Houckwack, of Missouri Water G&KA, had
good news and bad. She and her husband have worked to keep the club alive, but
haven't have a meeting since August. The good news is she is expecting twins

dissolve.
