    The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by Larry Leverett.

    There are 103 member clubs.

    MINUTES:

    Motion: To accept the minutes of June 8, 2001 with the following correction: Seminar Chair for 2002 should read Sheila Jackson @ (510) 724?4428 (she is also the new club rep). Motion by Doug, 2 by Joyce. Approved

    JUNE FINANCIAL STATEMENT

    : Carl handed out the June Financial report. Carl stated that the net income for the 2001 Seminar is $1,305.76, thus far.

    COMMITTEE REPORTS

    KOI USA: Joyce stated that Keith Griffiths submitted a proposal (replacing Sandy Files as the marketing person). Will be interviewing another person.

    SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE: Burt stated that Spike is sending out invitations for candidate slots; curriculum is close to being done They are two weeks behind on the time line.

    MEMBERSHIP: Doug handed out an updated club kit; asked those present to look it over and make any necessary corrections. He received an application, along with a check (dated Aug., 2000) for membership to AKCA. It was decided to table until Doug can contact them, ask when they mailed their application and get a $100 check

    JUDGING: Bob stated that they were very pleased with the Seminar; were very appreciative to be included in the Seminar program

    SPEAKERS BUREAU: No report.

    SPEAKERS GRANT: Burt stated that Linda Montgomery sent info on the 6 club speaker grant (Carole had sent out copy with last month's meeting). It was requested that this info be put on our web site by Debby Tibbetts Young.

    SPEAKER LOTTERY: We will be doing a drawing next month for the Speaker Lottery (clubs divided into four areas with one club from each area winning a grant for $400 towards paying for the speaker/airfare/hotel).

    SEMINAR REPORTS:

    2001 SEMINAR: The Seminar was a Success! Great Job done by Beth Grunden and all those involved in putting this on!

    2002 SEMINAR: The committee met on June 29th at the Seminar. The AKCA reps included Mark, Joyce Glenn and Carl Caddies. The host clubs were represented by Sheila Jackson, the new host chair, as well as Phred Jackson, Lucia Rose, Gary Chin, Jeanne & Bob Pershing, Merrily Marshall, Jeanne Little and Carolyn Van Hoecke. They had a great conversation with many ideas coming forward. They hope to have in place, very shortly, a connection between this years committee heads and the group from Houston. The feeling is that they are the most current experts. San Francisco Club will investigate further in what the convention bureau will provide; perhaps even registration help. KOI USA is open to the idea of hosting a Friday night "social hour" in the vendor area to introduce the hobbyists to the dealers. Briefly touched on was the coordination of the raffles and auctions. Mark has written a letter to all participating vendors expressing our thanks and asking their opinions about the Seminar to give guidance to next year. Some committee chairs have been assigned

    2003 SEMINARS: Doug Dahl left a message for Chris Miller, of the Atlanta Koi Club, the Chair of the Seminar.

    2004/2005 SEMINARS: Open; Spokane is considering hosting; Valley of the Sun is also interested.

    REPRESENTATIVE CONTACTS:

    Written report submitted by Burt: Chris Schroettinger, of Central Florida KC, went to a lily dealer's shop (15 ponds); had a luncheon; will have a meeting at Waterworld. Young fish show in Oct. at Waterworld. Arthur Manaker, of Nature's Coast K&WGC, said that they had a joint field trip with Gainesville to Blackwater; learned how to cull; had a barbecue. Their first koi show will be Oct. 6"'. Susanna Trittschuh, of Florida East Co said that they went on a tour of Merit Island Pond Tour; also Merit Island Hardware for koi Seminar; then went to Kitt Knott's pond to see all their water lilies. Linda Montgomery, of Cascade K&GFS said that they are considering changing their by?laws; adding board members. They enjoyed the PNKCA Seminar. Norbun Watson, of Warner Robins, said that everything is quiet; there will be a night pond tour in Sept. Jackie Welch, of Oklahoma KC, said that their next meeting will have a vet speaking; she has a Fish background. They are planning on using a charcoal type filter on their show tanks. Peter Enfield, of Pacific Wonderland said that he is converting rapid sand filters to bead filters; everything is quiet. Lucia Rose, of San Francisco B4y KC, said that Sheila Jackson is their new AKCA rep (e?mail: LADYJA6@aol.com They are gearing up the 2002 Seminar; will be going to the Steinart Aquarium Tour next month behind the scenes. Debby Tibbetts Young, of Southern Arizona KC, said that she needs a new rep list with addresses to send out the club kit updates. All Seminar attendees from their club had a great time; several new members showed u p at the last meeting from their pond tour. Their annual picnic is this month at Mountain View Koi in Herford near Tucson. Carl Fridenstine, of Santa Clara Valley Koi, said that their pond tour is this weekend; the local newspaper did a great write?up; they expect record turn out.

    Written report submitted by Carole: Florida K&WGS will have their June meeting at KellyCo Water gardens. Their July meeting will be at Gerry Gelardi's; she has a pond bigger than her swimming pool and encompasses almost her whole back yard.

    Written report submitted by Don : Bob Slack, of Blue Water Pond Club, said that their third meeting planned is to have Allen Noon, from the University of Western Ontario, show slides of his pond and koi and speak on koi breeding. Joe Russell, of Tulsa Koi Society said that they are working to create their club bylaws. Their meeting raffle was successful due to some beautiful koi art donated by club members. Their monthly newsletter provide Part 2 in depth lecture on Disease and Medications for healthy koi. Their July meeting lecture will be on koi identification. Their I' Annual Tulsa Pond Tour is planned for August 18 and they plan to support the Oklahoma City koi show Sept. I & 2. Send Pond Guides and extra Filter guides for added roster members to Joe Russell. Art Lembke, of Mid?Atlantic Koi, said that they have three Young koi shows coming up to get ready for the Koi America which already has 80 booths, three pond displays and 20 speakers including Japanese breeders signed up already. There are 4 hotels on site and seven restaurants so they hope to see everybody at Koi America August 17?19 in Chantilly, VA. For more information visit www.makc.com. Kay Larson of Olympic KC, is following up with their new Treasurer to pay their 2001 AKCA dues and to trace what happened to the check they sent for 2000. If necessary, they will replace the check if not cashed and AKCA continues to verify nonreceipt. They have a person volunteering for the KHT program and are very excited to be participating.     Written report submitted by Larry. Alice Kitselman?Ames of the Santa Fe Pond Society said they continuing to struggle along. Their last meeting was canceled because no one came. She is going to lure them to the next meeting with door prizes and a slide show of the AKCA Seminar, which she attended with her husband. She is working on new brochures and flyers with the color artwork of Katherine Kirtwood. Judy Endsley, of the Ohio Koi Club, said they are receiving their two issues of KOI USA with regularity. They toured a new Koi dealer in Dayton in June, and have plans to seine a mud pond in July. Judy attended the AKCA Seminar and had a great time. Darlene Jennings, of Mid?Michigan Pond and Water Garden Club, has been in the hospital. She has had heart surgery and may have to have some more. She is home now resting and our thoughts are with her through this difficult period. She is the President of their club and this weekend they are having their pond tour

    Written report submitted by Bob: Tamara DeBon, of Great Pond & Koi of W. Mi said that everything is OK. Charles Phelps, of Greater Louisville' said that their pond tour is July 20?21. Tom Tower, of Niagara Koi & Ponds, said that they had their koi show the last weekend of June; best they have had for several years. Charles Gardner, of North Florida KC, said that their koi show will be the first Saturday in November. Mona Coleman, of Northern Nevada, said that their club is very active; they have 35 family members. Frank LaPone, of Sierra KC said that everything is OK. So Cal Koi Club will be having their koi auction on August 12th at Joan & Bob Finnegan's, Sunday at 11:00 am. Will also have their koi show the first Saturday in December. Lester Berkow, of Tropical KC, said that everything is OK; Joe White will be the speaker at their next meeting. Sally Tomas, of West Tennessee, said that their Pond Tour will be in September; everything is OK. Bob has been trying to reach Richard LaPere at Water Garden South Texas, to no avail.     PROXY CALLS FOR AUGUST

    Follow up on who gets the 2 complimentary issues of KOI USA What club wants to host the 2004 & 2005 Seminar?

    OLD BUSINESS:

    Insurance: Burt stated that our Directors insurance expired July 5th, however, since the agency didn't send us a renewal bill, it is still in effect. He did received a bill, by fax, on July 1st the bill has been increased by 10% for $1,320. Since our original agent has changed agencies, Burt asked that we also change agencies and continue working with the same agent, Bill Malone. He is now at Metro Risk. Motion: To change insurance agencies, going to Metro Risk. Motion by Joyce, w2nd by Harlan. Approved.

    Presentation: Tom Gates presented Carole Elliott with a plaque of appreciation for her work as secretary of AKCA. He presented the other officers with plaques at the AKCA Seminar (Carole could not attend).

    NEW BUSINESS:

    Personal Dispensation: Burt stated that Bertrelle Caswell, one of the founders of AKCA, health has deteriorated. As a consequence, she has moved back to California and has to sell her Las Vegas, Nevada home for $255,000. It has a 20,000 gal. Koi pond with 8 upflow filters. Enclosed is more information on her home should anyone be interested or know of someone who is interested in purchasing her home.

    Koi Chat Room: Mark Barnett wants to start. a chat room for koi people. Carl stated that we already have a chat room on AKCA.org
