The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by Tom Gates. There are 103 member clubs.
SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE: Spike gave an update on the KHT program; went over goals made. He still needs to finalize KHT & AKCA agreement to do with the club packages; drafted but not reviewed. Also, didn't get notices to the clubs. He won't have the first draft revision done until July 13th. The Cal Vet Medical Board Enforcement Officer wants to know what we're going to do so that they can review. Spike wrote letter to the Vet Medical Board that was reviewed by a lawyer. Attorney Mike Collins thinks we are on firm ground; the law is definitely on our side. Spike found that Florida and Texas laws are very strict; others are more lenient. A decision has been made on the first class by regions.

MEMBERSHIP: Mark reported that he received applications, checks, etc. from Central Illinois (Bloomington) Motion: To accept Central Illinois Koi Club. Motion by Joan, 2 d by Burt. Approved Mark stated that he has the existing club guides; Burt has looked over for any changes. He also stated, that due to increased demands on his time, he will not be able to be as active this year; his club calls will be taken over by Doug Dahl. He will, however, still chair the 2002 Seminar. HE WILL BE MISSED!!
JUDGING: Bob stated that they are ready for the Seminar. They will have around 35 in their group on the bus on Thursday for koi judging exercise.
SPEAKERS BUREAU: No report.
SPEAKERS GRANT : It was asked if Debby is working on getting the rules for the 6 club grant on the internet; we still need to find the rules from our past minutes.
AKCA will provide funds to help defray the Air fare, Accommodations and any Speaker fees necessary to bring high quality speakers to a koi function. To be considered for a Speaker Grant, the koi function must have a minimum of six or more AKCA affiliated koi clubs in attendance. The Grants made available per year will be issued only one time per year to each requesting koi club group. Restrictions to this is as follows: Any club within the original requesting group may not go outside of that original request and join another requesting group in the same year. The goal of this Grant will be to exchange current koi information to better promote the koi hobby and to bring together koi hobbyists, many of which are unable to participate in major sanctioned koi seminars and provide to them the high quality speakers they would otherwise not have the opportunity to enjoy
2002 SEMINAR: Mark stated that Camellia Koi Club has agreed to help San Francisco put on the Seminar. Elaine Jackson will assume leadership with Lucia taking over vendors.
2003 SEMINARS: Doug Dahl will be contacting Chris Miller of Atlanta
2004/2005 SEMINARS: Open; Joan stated that Washington expressed an interest in holding 2004 Seminar. South Carolina still might be interested in 2005.
Written report submitted by Carol : Nathan Stover, of Valley of the Sun, said that their club is on summer sabbatical until September. They just finished an Advanced Health Koi Seminar with Nick St. Erne, DVM speaking. Some topics covered were fish physiology, water, and using the microscope. Mel Barutha, of South Carolina K&WGS said that they just had their 3rd Annual Pond tour; good turnout; lot of new people. They became friends of the State Botanical Gardens that has a koi pond. Will do some volunteer work around Sept/Oct. They are looking forward to the Atlanta Seminar; perhaps, after going to Atlanta, they will agree to do the 2005 Seminar. Lynn McDermott (103 Oakfern Drive, Simpsonville, South Carolina, 2968 1) should be getting the 2 complimentary issues of KOI USA. Texas WGS North will be having their Annual Pond Tour June 23?24. There will be a Saturday, Saturday night, and Sunday tour. There will be a self guided tour for 50 ponds; book regarding this are sold at local dealers and merchants. There will also be bus tours for each. Michael Baker. Of Central Alabama K&WGS said that they had a pond tour with 5 ponds; it was self guided. He should be getting the 2 complimentary issues of KOI USA. Mike Przewoznik, of High Desert Koi Fanciers, said that they just went to Morning Cloak Ranch; lots of exotic plants as well as koi. Their yearly event will be in September; will have a bus tour, koi auction, koi raffle, etc. Right now they are doing pond tours.
Written report submitted by Kell : Joe Maranto, of Greater Dayton KC, said that this months meeting will be held at Keith & Linda Kinney on June 3rd ; will be viewing a video on advanced koi keeping. They will be having a booth at the 2001 Lillyfest at Greenvista Water Gardens, June 23? There will be a public pond tour on July 1'. They will have their Annual picnic on July 8th at the Kendall's. Wand Empire WG&KS held a meeting June 7th at the home of Tim & Sheyl Anderson Will have a Board and business meeting on June 12 th . Catherine Hodgson, of Michigan K&PS, said that there will be a special member request event on June 16th. They will have a public pond tour on June 15th. July 7th 2001 Water Garden Tour.
Written report submitted by Mark: Claudia Herdeman, of ?Austin Pond, said that they elected two people for Koi Person; had to correct as only one is allowed per club. They talked about plant swapping at their meeting. For Austin Koi, Claudia stated that the best number to call to reach her is (512) 301?7738. Ray Jordan spoke at their last meeting; slide show. Mary Oxman, of Ve said that a new member just got an excellent liner pond. Wanted to know how to get more KOI USA discounts. James Hooper, of Mendocino, said that they will visit sites for the annual pond tour, to be held Saturday, July 21'. They are bringing back an enclosed greenhouse; highly touted; includes giant banana plants. Concerned about dues increase for new clubs. Suggested a first year discount for new clubs. ZNA Orange County elected Riley Smith as Koi Person of the Year. Fish purchased by the club were discussed. Ron Goforth, of Moto Kara Koi Club, said that their meeting this weekend will be at the flower festival.
Written report submitted by Carl: Norm Call, of Oregon K&WGS, suggested having an AKCA Seminar aboard a cruise ship. He thought that it would be cheaper than current ones and would give attendees places to see as well. Bill Greer, of Nashville Pond Society , stated that they had a fish sale in which they sold the fish for less than they paid for them; did this as a way of celebrating their club's I 10th birthday. They decided to keep the price of $5 per fish and raise the quality of the fish for the birthday.
Written report submitted by Doug: Bob Slack and Ron Bain, of Blue Water Pond Club, stated that the e?mail address for bob was incorrect. It ends with ca not com. They requested that the KOI USA complimentary issues be sent to Bob Slack. Their first meeting was held at DeGroots nursery where a slide presentation showed ponds and how to start a pond; also provided donations for the raffle. Their second meeting had Lorraine and Steve Gregson, from London, Ontario, present how to build a filter. It was well timed because this was the first nice weekend to work outside. Their third meeting plans to have Allen Noon from the University of Western Ontario to show slides of his pond and koi and speak on koi breeding. David Smothers, of North Carolina K&WGS, said that he is excited about the potential growth the Raleigh area can provide to his club. Joe Russell and Ron Davis, of Tulsa Koi Society , said that their club split off from the Oklahoma club and has increased recently to 20 members. They need pond guides sent; complimentary KOI USA magazines are to go to Joe Russell. Kay Larson, of Olympic KC, said that complimentary KOI USA magazines should go to Kay. Mike and Susan Kandt, of Kansas Pond Society, said that they will start providing Brenda Atwell their club activities monthly. Written report submitted by L : Darlene Jennings, of Mid?Michigan P&WGC said their Pond Tour is set for July 14th. Tickets are $7.00 and can be purchased after July 1sr Tour is from 9:00 to 6:00 p.m. Alice Kitselman?Ames of Santa Fe Pond Society said that they have one volunteer for the KHT program. They will be at the Houston Seminar and will get all the information on the program. Judy Endsley, of Ohio Koi Club, said Ron and Maryanne Bergman's koi was chosen Koi of the Year and Hollie Suggs, who has only missed one meeting since the clubs inception, has been named the Koi Person of the Year from their club. Mike Gwinnup, of Cherokee Strip WGS, said they have a permanent address for the club now, so all their mail will get to the club no matter who's in charge. They will have their annual Pond Tour on June 22?23 starting Friday afternoon till dark then on Saturday morning until noon.

Richard LePere, of West Tennessee, said that they are having a Seminar June 9th; this club is very active in koi teaching. Charles Gardner, of No. Florida KC said that everything is OK. Frank LaPome, of Sierra KC said that everything is OK. Charles Phelps, of Greater Louisville KC, said that their koi show was a great success; 170 koi.
