The following clubs have been dropped from AKCA: Koi Buddies of Sylmar & Koi Keepers Society of Puerto Rico These clubs will be required to pay a fee of $25 to be reinstated along with the back dues. All insurance coverage and judges associated with these clubs are also suspended!

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by Tom Gates. There are 97 member clubs.
SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE: Spike spoke on the status of the proposed KHT program. He said that the program was essentially ready to start with no major problems. Brett has withdrwn but would still like to stay incolced in a lesser capacity. Spike went over some of the details of the programs and statedtha club interest is food. The various components of the program are: Ponds (Burt Ballou) , Water (Norm Meck), Filters (TBA), Nutrition (Chris Neaves), Anatomy/Physiology (Phil Ishizu), diagnosis & Treatment (Sandy Yosha), Labs (Sandy Yosha), and HTT/Client Concerns (Spike Cover) KHT/Administration(Spike Cover). The budget through the first class is anticipated at $40K; following years it would be $30K per year. It was stated that anyone going through the KHT training will have to sign an agreement stating that they willnot charge for their services. Trainees will have to sign an agreement stating that they will NOT charge for their services. Motion: To fund the KHT program. Motion by Burt, 2nd by Larry. Approved
MEMBERSHIP: Mark reported that a kit was sent out to Ron Bain. Prairieland Pond Society, of Illinois, sent in a membership application, check, and club roster. They have 109 family members. Motion: To approve Prairieland Pond Society as an AKCA member club. Motion by Bur~ 2 no by Joyce. Approved
JUDGING: Bob stated that Galen and Ray Jordan got together; they will have more exposure at the Seminar (six hours on Friday & Saturday).
SPEAKERS BUREAU: No report.
SPEAKERS GRANT: No Report
AKCA GUIDES: No Report
NOMINATING COMMITTEE: It was stated that at least one club has sent in their ballots but also included the Koi Person of the Year and Koi of the Year in with the ballots. PLEASE send only the ballot for slate of officers and the proposed dues increase for AKCA. Send the Koi Person of the Year and Koi of the Year to the person listed on that form. PLEASE SEND IN BY MAY 1st
2002 SEMINAR: Mark stated that he hasn't talked to them as they have been very busy with their show. Everyone is enthusiastic; Tour plan has been worked out.
2003 SEMINARS: Northern Nevada has expressed an interest; there is also strong interest from Atlanta.
2004/2005 SEMINARS: Open
Written report submitted by Larry: Barry Berger, of the Greater Boston Koi Keepers, said he would be interested in the Koi Health Technician program. Donna Wood, of the Gulf Coast Koi Society said that she would also be interested in the program. Some of these clubs don't start meeting until March. Judy Endsley, of the Ohio Koi Club, said her club may have trouble coming up with the higher AKCA dues if they go into effect.
Written report submitted by Mark: Spoke briefly with Ron Goforth's wife, of Moto Kara Koi Kai; discussed the dues change. Ray Jordan, of Texas Koi & FGF, reports that they received the materials to vote on and will be doing so at their next meeting. Remind other clubs that their club is sponsoring going to the Seminar with a $50 stipend. Yoshida is visiting in May and they are working on their next koi show. ZNA Orange County had Tom Holder speak on the pond heating called the Kozy Koi Heating system. This type of heater is the most economical unit on the market according to Tom. They also did some planning for the Oct. show
Written report submitted by Joyce: Fred McCorkle, of the Florida West Coast Club, reports that Jerome Yates will not be taking over as club representative due to illness. Robin Soctt is the new rep for the Atlanta Koi Club (4331 Flippen Trail, Norcross, GA 30092). Neither she nor Gaye has the minutes from the last meeting or ballots. Dave Peebler, of Water Garden Soc. of Kansas reports they just finished the Wichita Garden Show where they signed up 38 new households. They are going to start another branch under their club's present banner for the real true koi junkies in the club. They are planning a workshop night at the Wichita Botanical Gardens on April 3rd for their 250?300 members. They will have presenters on topics such as basic pond planning and construction, how to surf the internet for pond info using a live presentation on a large screen. Jose Santiago, of the Puerto Rico Club ' said they are planning to have their meetings in local universities. He is planning to go to the Seminar this year. He said that he would send in the roster and dues. Any e?mail to the Hawaii Club should go to Hawaiikoi@aol.com. It is we roster and dues Any e?mail to the Hawaii Club go to it is monitored daily. He will check on the ballots. Virgil Hettick, of ZNA SoCal, reports the Annual ZNA Show is next weekend. He wanted to know if his minutes are going to someone else (NO!).
Written report submitted by Bob: Duane Eaton, of Watergarden Club of South Texas, said that they have I 10 family members. Their Pond Tour will be May l2th; Water Garden Day will be June 9th Tom Tower, of Niagara Koi Club, thinks that the dues increase may be too steep for small clubs, even with the AKCA benefits. They will have an exhibit at the Flower & Plant Show later this month. They will send in the ballot for AKCA slate of officers and for dues. Lorraine Gregson, of Forest City Pond Club, said that they will vote; everything is OK. Charles Gardner, of No. Florida KC, said that they sent in their ballots. Mona Coleman, of Northern Nevada, said that Dr. Johnson's Seminar is this weekend; mailed in their ballots. Gene Watenpaugh, of Rocky Mountain KC, said that they mailed in their ballot. Frank LaPome, of Sierra KC, said that everything is OK; will send in their ballot. So Cal Koi Club just met at Laguna Koi Ponds; Ben Plonski spoke about how to scrape a koi and how to use a microscope. The club recently voted on purchasing a microscope that would be at all meetings and available to club members.
