v      FEBRUARY FINANCIAL STATEMENT/FINANCE COMMITTEE:

Doug stated that the investment account increased $14,073 in February.  American mutual fund is up 7.7%; Fidelity mutual fund is up 9.9%.  As of this date, we have $8,235 in income and $10,464 in expenses for the Seminar.  Piedmont paid AKCA the $100 they owed for 2nd website check cashed.  As of 2/29, KOI USA has $4,967 advertising that is 61-90 days late and $683 that is moe than 90 days late.  CBI and Koi Stuff have exercised the right to demand our collection agency not call their home; written communication is being employed.  Natures Paradise is refusing to satisfy their debt but continuing collection attempts are being made.  Suburban Clear Water debt of $2,115 plus $146.92 interest has been turned over to our collection agency since they ignored all of Doug’s attempts to contact them.  Carl Caddies made Doug aware of the detailed Bookstore procedures he and Judy prepared for AKCA.  He used this info to purchase copies of the Koi Classification Video Tapes.  Mandy, Lisa and Doug now have a copy of this procedure document and it will be added to the binder in the Board meeting room.  We have 3 bank charg backs for improperly charging a credit card more than $1,600 for KOI USA advertising after they notified us of a change in personnel and credit card.  It is a long story but continued charge backs for improper charges could lose AKCA the right to take credit cards.  Doug has requested the KOI USA staff to tighten their communication procedures to not allow this problem to recur.

REPRESENTATIVE CONTACTS:

o         Written report submitted by Doug:  Debby Davis, of Las Pampas K&WG Society, reports their last meeting lecture discussed raising baby koi by a club member who is very much into raising baby koi as a hobbyist.  They also had a discussion on home made filter design at a recent meeting.  Their recent membership drive netted 3 additional family memberships.  Club members are planning a 60 mile field trip to local greenhouses for plants.  They plan a float in the annual rodeo parade and are having a club banner made to stretch across a street in town advertising the club.  Some club members are planning a koi buying trip to a koi farm in Oklahoma.  Located in the Texas pan handle, club members are still dealing with freezing temperatures until April.  Paul Samson, of Idaho WG Society, reports they had 75 club members at their first meeting of the year.  Their April meeting will provide club members with the opportunity to ask questions on koi health of the 3 KHA graduates in this club.  At the end of March, the club will have a booth at the Home & Garden show to advertise the club and sign up new members.  The club is hosting the PNKCA Seminar June 11-13.  The July meeting is planned to discuss why and when salting a koi pond is good for your koi.  David Hester, of Mid Atlantic Koi Club, reports all of their chapters will hold their first meetings in March.  The South Chapter has been invited to have a booth at the annual Matsuri Festival by the Washington Chapter of the Japanese American Society.  Sales of CDs and DVDs containing past issues of MAKC magazine articles has been so successful, a third printing has been ordered.  Webmaster Wayne Orchard is busy changing the look of the MAKC website.  The MAKC annual meeting will be held in conjunction with the South Chapter Koi Show June 5/6 in Fredericksburg, Virginia.  Andrew DeSantis is show chairman for this koi show.  The 16th MAKC Koi Show will be held in the Allentown, PA Agriculture Center on Oct 9/10.  Karen Pattist is show chairperson.  Head Judge will be Larry Christensen.  More information can be found at www.makc.com.  Dr. James Hooper, of Mendocino Coast Koi Club, reports someone with his and Doug Dahl’s email address sent him an email with a virus that was filtered out by a virus search program.  Doug did not send this email so it must have come from someone’s address book with both addresses.  If you received an email with a virus from any person in AKCA, please let Doug know ao he can search out this source by process of elimination.  The club is upgrading it’s library of koi and pond books by buying books from the AKCA Bookstore.  Bill Greer, of Nashville Pond Society, reports they are knee deep preparing for the Nashville Lawn & Garden Show to be held at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds.  50,000 in attendance is expected.  Their exhibit titled “On Golden Pond” includes koi, water and a sound track of loons.  Their exhibit is in the hall full of professional landscaper exhibits.  Timothy Czech, of Pioneer Valley WG&KC, reports they continue to plan their first koi show now slated for August, 2005.  They are scouting locations and we all know how difficult this can be for a club.  They will vote on revised club By-Laws at the March meeting.  They are using the AKCA By-Laws as a guide to content for the club By-Laws modifications.  7 club members have requested to purchase a copy of the latest book from AKCA so these were ordered.

Note:  Persons buying 5 or more of a single item from the AKCA Bookstore qualify for the dealer discount price for that item.  There is no such thing as a club discount at the bookstore.  For example, the retail price for the new book Basic Koi Ponds, Filters and Water is $25 but the dealer price is $20 for 5 or more.  So, clubs can save their members money by collecting orders and buying in bulk.

Mary Oxman, of Ventura KC, reports 40 club members and 10 guests braved the rainy weather to visit the

Indiana Jones theme pond built by club member Eric Howes and to ask questions of Burt Ballou who was the

meeting speaker.  Added distinguished guests were Mark and Charlene Whalen and Spike and Ginger Cover,

all associated with AKCA and Southern California koi club activism.  The March meeting will be at the

home of Dan Miller in Camarillo with the topic of discussion “making a small pond work-it is about

filtration.”  Dan will also show his large orchid collection at this meeting.  Doug tried to contact the

following clubs with no response:  Austin Koi Club; Central Calif.KC; Dai Ichi KC; First Coast K&WG

Club; Michigan K&Pond Coub-SE; and, Tulsa Koi Society.

o         Written report submitted by Bruno:  Koi Kichi & WGC reports that their February meeting was held at Mario Jimenez’s restaurant in Whittier.  Everyone enjoyed the great Mexican food.  At the meeting they voted on adding another member to their board; now have an activity coordinator, Brad Blancett.  They also decided to postpone their club’s pond tour scheduled for April 17th.  They made this decision based on the fact that so many members’ ponds are under construction.  They hope to reschedule it for the latter part of the year.  Instead, they opted to hold a koi auction on the date that the pond tour was scheduled.
