Comments from the Financial Office
Comments from Carl regarding some of the remarks that were included with the ballots for the question of raising the clubs annual dues. One of the remarks on a ballot voting "NO" stated "Not with $400,000.00 in the Bank". This individual is correct, HOWEVER, most of the funds are currently committed to: (to name a few)
1 .Koi USA subscribers and advertisers as unearned income ($150,000.00)
2.Seminar at Houston ($70,000.00) ?
3.Koi Hobby Technician (KHT) training program ($ 100,000.00)
4.Other smaller commitments:
example: to ship 2 cartons (total of 120 copies) 43 pounds each of "Filter Guides" to one of our Canadian clubs, cost (98.00 US Dollars). example: Shipping to the clubs in the Continental United States using the "best way" US Post Office "Media Mail", cost about $15.00 per carton of 60 copies. How many cartons did your club get?
We have not shipped the NEW "Health Guides" yet; they will go out soon. (Another $7,000.00 or $8,000.00)
So, for the $100.00 Annual Dues the clubs really don't get anything for the money, I wouldn't raise the dues, just cut the services!! (Ya think??)
Each year the nominations for Financial Office are opened and for the last five years not one individual stepped forward to handle this office. Read your "by-laws" and get in the game. I am retiring next year and am willing to do the bookkeeping for the Association but someone will have to step up to the Financial Officer's plate.!! Respectfully submitted: Carl Caddies, Financial Officer
SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE: Spike gave an update on the KHT program. He stated that it is going good; got off to a slow start. He put together a schedule; will have the class up and on site by the Seminar. Florida K&WGS recently held a meeting at Aqua Gardens. Each month they send out 9 page newsletter; the cover is full of color pictures, usually from the last meeting they had (all are beautiful). They also have a number of advertisers listed; a message from the President; a listing of the items in their bookstore, etc. John Zaragoza, of Bakersfield K&WGS, said that they are planning a koi show for October. Members of their club have had problems with parasites; a number of lost koi. Their meetings are on Saturdays with 40?50 people attending each meeting; every other meeting is a luncheon. He is very interested in the KHT program. He also mentioned that he discovered, on the Internet, a company called Tripp?Lite, that has an auto power system (APS) that is used in the?event of a "brown?out". Once the electricity is shut off, the system automatically kicks in so that you don't lose your power of the pump or aeration. Much cheaper than using a generator.

Written report submitted by Joyce: Alton, of Hawaii GF&Carp will forward her request to the club email box. He did inform Joyce that it is only a list of names because they want to protect the privacy of their members. Carol Jones, of Florida West Coast, asked two questions: (1) Koi of the Year contest, is it the BEST photo of a koi or the BEST koi? Joyce answered her telling her that any fish that won the AKCA award at a show was an automatic entry. Because that fish was a winner, they would want to present the best picture possible. (2) The Koi Health Tech: is it $500 for each KHT or $500 per club? Does it take 3 years to learn or can clubs add people as KHT over a 3?year period? What's the best way for interested parties to keep up on the progress of what's happening, such as a web site? (We should be updating you through KoiUSA as well as our internet site) Robin Scott, of Atlanta Koi Club, is the new rep and has not received minutes so far, however, she has been out of town helping with a brand new grandchild. Dave Peebler, of Water Garden Society of Kansas, is trying to make it to Houston as well as encouraging others in his club to participate in the Seminar.
