So, unfortunately we have not had a meeting as he is usually our speaker/teacher. With all the illness in our families we have not had a meeting lately to vote on Koi Person of the Year. Dot Wilbanks, reports the first meeting of 2012 took place Sun Feb 26 at the home of David Waller & Kirk Baxter. Unfortunately, David had a “small” accident at work last year that resulted in a break in his wrist/hand area. But even with this setback they managed to set up their 3 tiered winter village along with the 3 trains and over 100 light-up buildings. Each small detail is interwoven so closely with the entire plan that it appears to be magic when the wall switch is flipped on & everything lights up at one time. Given the fact that David still has a broken wrist it was truly a sight to behold & enjoy. A member from years ago, Bill Otto, has moved back to town & graced their meeting with his presence. They discussed plans for the year and Ron Goforth shared his unique knowledge on koi. Shigeru Mano & his brothers won the All Japan Koi Show, again; this time with a showa from their Dainichi koi farm. Ron had pictures of this gorgeous koi that made everyone drool. David’s pond is now 16 years old, is around 4,000 gallons and is home to some beautiful koi. He is very proud of the fact that his water quality is still top notch. David served cold drinks & desserts (with all the calories removed) to the members & guests that were present.
